The Business
Arches Housing was established in 1975 and has many years’ experience of providing good quality affordable housing within South Yorkshire.
Arches aims to improve constantly through consultation with residents and business partners enabling the use of up-to-date knowledge of customers and market-places as key drivers to provide good value and maximise investment in improving the housing stock, providing quality housing services and building new homes.
The Business Need
When implementing a new planned maintenance system, Arches wanted to ensure that it would be able to report and forecast utilising existing data effectively.
The Solution
Aware of James Holland’s expertise with asset data, Arches asked him to help design an appropriate asset attribute structure within the new system. James analysed the existing stock attribute data and devised a suitable structure into which the data could be transferred.
Additionally, James identified some data anomalies, enabling these to be corrected before the data was migrated into the new structure.
The Benefits
As a result of the changes, Arches has a user-friendly set-up which is easier for staff to use and report from. Forecasting is improved, particularly in relation to planned works programmes. James also provided full documentation so that Arches could continue to maintain and follow the new attribute structure in the future.

‘We have worked with James before. He has a sharp eye for detail and provides a responsive, friendly, polite and reliable service. He is always quick to understand our needs and we have benefitted more than once from his experience and skills in data manipulation/analysis; his understanding of the business of housing association planned maintenance and his sound advice.’
