Aquila Services Group (Aquila) is a group of consultancies focused on making a better, more sustainable, socially responsible world; making a real difference to communities, housing, regeneration and people’s lives in the UK and beyond.
The Business Need
Aquila was running on a traditional hosted server, but due to the rapid growth of the Group, this posed a number of challenges. For example, accessing data while mobile was slow and temperamental. Departments were working in silos and collaboration between them was poor. A solution was sought.
Microsoft Office 365 was selected as a method of best transforming working practices; enhancing mobile working capabilities and encouraging and facilitating collaboration across the business. Aquila then selected 3C Consultants to ensure that the implementation of 365 was a success. Andrew Buckels, one of 3C’s specialist 365 consultants, assisted with the creation and implementation of the programme, creating a new Group SharePoint site and filing structure, so providing a solid foundation on which to build.
The programme started with a discovery phase in order to understand how the business currently worked and how the team would ideally like to work moving forward. This shaped the design and a new filing structure was developed. Once complete, a data cleanse was then performed to ensure that the migration from the old environment to the new would be smooth and would not inherit issues from the past.
Following the migration, Andrew provided full training to all staff on both SharePoint and Microsoft Teams. This training was supplemented by ‘How to’ Office 365 guides that provided a reference point and best practice guideline, so supporting the training and providing a level of quality assurance. These guides sit on Aquila’s SharePoint Intranet, which was also developed by Andrew, so allowing staff to easily reference the very latest version of the guide at any time.
With the successful implementation of Office 365, the Aquila team have much easier and reliable access to files, even when mobile. Teams has allowed staff to work much more collaboratively on projects, regardless of their location, without the fear of losing work due to poor connectivity.
Office 365 has been a true enabler for the Aquila team and as the Group grows, 365 will seamlessly scale with it, swiftly integrating any new business areas that may arise.
3C continues to support Aquila and have recently began providing assistance to integrate a new consultancy division that is located in a different part of the UK into the Group’s 365 environment.
